I was faced with a glut of pears in my CSA box this week. I love eating pears and so do my kids – in fact, it was their first ever solid food when they were babies and they both love eating pear slices for breakfast or after school snack. Pears remind me of growing up in the English countryside and my Granny and colder weather and the pear tree in our garden that always seemed to produce hard pear bullets year after year that we didn’t quite know what to do with.
I love to make a delicious pear compote but today I decided that it was going to be Pear Smoothie Day. Since I make a protein smoothie most mornings for breakfast, I decided today was time to throw a bit of pear in the blender. It has such a delicate flavor and goes so well with avocado – my other favorite smoothie ingredient – which makes your smoothie thick and creamy, so much so that you will need a spoon to eat it. Add some almond milk and vanilla protein powder and you have a complete light green meal in a glass. It is perfect for your New Year’s detox, cleanse or smoothie reset. Why not try it this week?
Pear and Avocado Protein Smoothie
1 pear, core and stalk removed
1/4 ripe avocado
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 scoops vanilla protein powder (I love Shaklee Vanilla 180)
Throw everything in your blender, blend until smooth and enjoy straight away!
